Fire Fighting Equipment – Supply and Maintenance

Extinguishers should be professionally maintained by a trained and experienced, competent person. Special manufacturer’s procedures will be adopted to ensure safe working practices at all times.

All parts of the extinguishers will be checked including gauges, tubes, valves, safety devices and operating mechanisms.

Where possible, parts will be weighed and inspected, internally and externally for signs of wear and/or corrosion.

Service labels will be placed on the extinguishers showing a record of service.

Discharge Test.

In addition to the annual servicing, an extended service will be carried out following the cycle detailed below:-

  • Water and Foam – every 5 years
  • Powder – every 5 years
  • Sealed Powder – every 10 years
  • CO2 – every 5 years
  • Overhaul
  • CO2 extinguishers are required to be overhauled once every 10 years
  • Unsafe/Unserviceable.

In some cases, extinguisher parts are irreparable and may become unsafe. Such extinguishers pose a serious hazard and will be “condemned” by our engineers. The condemned extinguisher will be removed from service and replaced with a safe extinguisher.
